In theaters today, Denzel Washington treks cross country on foot through the post-apocalyptic American wasteland in The Book of Eli!

The Hughes Brothers, who brought us classics like Dead Presidents and From Hell, return to the big screen with this tale of faith and corruption in the desert of the future.

Denzel Washington stars as Eli, a lone man fighting his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind. His journey brings him to Carnegie (Gary Oldman), a self-righteous man with an entire town under his thumb, including his daughter Solara (Mila Kunis), who joins Eli on his journey to bring order to the wasteland.

I think with the end, we weren't really tkliang about the "twist", I thought that was fine. I think it's more about what they did with the Mila Kunis character, Solara, and the shot of her basically being a female version of Eli. Perhaps if it was a different actress I might have believed it, but I didn't see anything "badass" in her character or performance that would lead me to believe that she wouldn't get her ass handed to her the first time she had to fight more than one person at once. Overall, I enjoyed the movie and see it as an homage to the old spaghetti westerns and Kurosawa's samurai films. Though there are certain things that could have been better, it still was entertaining and glad I saw it. Dennis
