Weekend Movie Preview: July 6, 2012

What’s new at the Multiplex this weekend? Oliver Stone returns to his criminal roots in Savages, Katy Perry gets the biopic/concert film treatment in Part of Me and Morgan Freeman and Rob Reiner re-team for The Magic of Belle Isle. But, look for the weekend box office winner to be the film that arrived on screens earlier this week, The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield is Peter Parker and the guy could not have been better cast. The Marc Webb film is basically the same story we all know so well from the Sam Raimi trilogy, but told with a better cast, better action and 3D that will blow your mind. Also, as we state in our The Amazing Spider-Man review, having the villain be The Lizard gives the story a much more personal feel to our hero.

Savages: Oliver Stone has crafted a riveting and brutish thriller based on the bestselling book by Don Winslow. Taylor Kitsch breaks out of his sci-fi hold of late and rivets in every frame. John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson and Demian Bichir fill out this astounding cast that rocks, according to our Savages review.

Katy Perry: Part of Me: The pop songstress presents a surprisingly inspiring tale of sticking to your guns, following your dreams and success will follow. Perry does not shy away from showing the more difficult aspects of her life, particularly her divorce to Russell Brand. Toss in a cavalcade of her hits including Hot and Cold, I Kissed a Girl and Teenage Dream and as said in our Katy Perry: Part of Me review… this film is one heck of a Firework.

The Magic of Belle Isle: Reiner and Freeman join forces after their successful The Bucket List, but the result is a little less satisfying. Freeman is an alcoholic writer who finds new inspiration in life when he spends a summer at the titular locale. Our The Magic of Belle Isle review delves deeper, but overall… this is light entertainment.

Why the City hasn't replaced Jim is santrge. The most ideal person in this town for this post would be Dave Menary. He has written 2 books about local history, worked for the Reporter, and been a teacher. l know Dave personally and can tell you straight up he's a local historian inside out. A polite honest person like Dave would be a perfect addition for this position. There could be a cost factor for the City however. Since we're broke and our reserves are nearly drained (remember the City summer closings). After contacting HR of the City they told me they just don't know if or when this job will be offered. Jim will be missed no doubt but Mr. Menary is the perfect fit for the job.

Hi! I'mgetting married next weneekd and just ran across your song on YouYube. It is absolutely perfect for my wedding. Sadly, my programs are already printed and say I'm walking down the aisle to cannon in d, but I don't even care! I have to have your song! Do you have an Mp3 version that I can download? I will, of course, pay you for your trouble.

The Amazing Spider-Man Quotes

George Stacy: You know, recently, Dr. Connors gave Gwen a glowing college recommendation. It was beautiful. I read it, I cried. But you would have me believe that he is running around dressed up like a giant dinosaur?
Peter Parker: Not dressing up, not a dinosaur. He has transformed himself into a giant lizard.
George Stacy: Let me ask you a question. Do I look like the mayor of Tokyo to you?

Jack's Father: Who are you?
Spider-Man: Spider-Man.
