This edition of the Weekend Movie Preview is all about Twilight as Breaking Dawn Part 2 premieres. The final chapter in the Stephenie Meyer saga finally lands in theaters, but it is not alone. The epic Steven Spielberg film Lincoln releases nationwide and Oscar movie fans will treasure the performances in Anna Karenina and Silver Linings Playbook.
Breaking Dawn Part 2: The Twilight Saga officially ends as the love story of Edward and Bella comes to a close. Fans will line up in droves for this one and look for the film to break box office records before the weekend is out. As we state in our Breaking Dawn Part 2 review, Twi-hards will find it a five-star spectacle while other film-goers might actually enjoy this one!
Lincoln: Spielberg scores what may be his highest achievement yet in bringing the complex world of Abraham Lincoln to life. Daniel Day Lewis should just be given the Oscar for Best Actor with his uncanny performance as our 16th president. As we reported in our Lincoln review, the supporting cast rivets as Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Sally Field and James Spader all rise to the occasion.
Silver Linings Playbook: Again, another great acting-driven film hits theaters in limited release today before going wide November 21. Bradley Cooper further pushes his acting envelope after the solid performance earlier this year in The Words. Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro both have quite a lot of Oscar buzz around them for their roles. For more, check out our Silver Linings Playbook review.
Anna Karenina: Keira Knightley was born to play the title character in Tolstoy’s classic novel. The Joe Wright-directed film is lush, even if it loses a bit of luster at the 75-percent through mark. Jude Law and Aaron Taylor Johnson both astound, as mentioned in the Movie Fanatic Anna Karenina review. The film opens in limited release today, and goes wide November 21.
