by at . Comments

A new 13-minute featurette has dropped for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, with interviews from the cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage. Take a look:

Peter Jackson has returned to the Shire to tackle the prequel to his Lord of the Rings series, based on the book The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. In the featurette, Jackson discusses how he turned the relatively slight novel into a three-part film series, starting with this year's An Unexpected Journey, followed by The Desolation of Smaug, and There and Back Again.

Martin Freeman stars as Bilbo Baggins, who is recruited by Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to lead thirteen dwarves in the reclamation of their home from the dragon Smaug, played by Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness). Richard Armitage, Ian Holm, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, and Hugo Weaving (Cloud Atlas) star.

An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14. Check out some The Hobbit stills for more.
