Everyone's favorite butt-kicking British broad, Peggy Carter, will not be returning to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The sequel, while set in the present after Captain America's resurrection, has long been rumored to contain numerous flashbacks to the early twentieth century. Nonetheless, actress Haley Atwell confirmed in an interview that she will not reprise her role as Carter.
A new female lead will be joining the fray, though no official announcement has been made as to the character or actress. Peggy's niece Sharon is part of Cap's "modern" plot line in the comic book universe, though that could be seen as a tad incestuous.
Anthony Mackie (Gangster Squad) and Frank Grillo will be joining Chris Evans in the film, as the Falcon and Crossbones, respectively. Also set to reprise their Avengers roles are Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained), Cobie Smulders, and Scarlett Johansson.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will premiere April 4, 2014.
