The Avengers Visual Effects Reel: See How They Did It

The Avengers received an Oscar nomination yesterday for Best Visual Effects, and was the only major superhero movie to get a nod from the Academy.

Take a look at this Visual Effects reel from the film to see how the effects were achieved, and why they deserved the nomination:

Joss Whedon's record-busting Superhero film earned over $1.5 billion worldwide, in large part due to the excellent effects. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson (Django Unchained), and Cobie Smulders star.

The Hobbit, Life of Pi, Prometheus, and Snow White and the Huntsman are also competing in the Visual Effects category. Tune in to the Oscars on February 24 to see who wins.
