Days before we followed up with Evil Dead stars Jane Levy and Jessica Lucas at WonderCon, Movie Fanatic sat down with the film's director Fede Alvarez and Levy, his lead, for an exclusive video interview. In our chat the director. who is a lifelong Evil Dead fan, lets us in on why he thinks the film series is so wildly popular and has been for 40 years.
“It’s different from most horror movies. In most horror movies, the characters are just victims. In Evil Dead movies, as they are getting possessed one by one, there’s always a moment at the end of an Evil Dead movie where the character goes, 'You know what, I’ve had enough.' And they turn around and they face these bad guys. This is very unique," Alvarez said. "The hero story always come out of an Evil Dead movie.”
Levy admitted that beyond the actual challenge of the making of the film, the shoot was difficult to let go of, long after she heard each day’s “cut.”
“It was a good learning experience for the future to never do that again,” Levy said and laughed. “I didn’t sleep very much. I had nightmares. But it was a lesson in tolerance, and next time, I’m going to have a lot more fun with it.”
Check out the Evil Dead trailer and try to not be scared. Our review will be live April 5, but we can tell you this much: It's the scariest movie you will see this year. Guaranteed.
