Coming just one day after he announced he would be taking a break due to his cancer recurring, superstar film critic Roger Ebert has passed away.
Ebert was a long-time reviewer for the Chicago Sun-Times, as well as for television with fellow critic Gene Siskel, and later, Richard Roeper. The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist has served as the heartbeat of American cinematic criticism for the last several decades.
After battling cancer, Roger Ebert lost his jaw, and with it the ability to speak, in 2006. He did not shy away from the public, however, taking to the internet continue doing what he loved: writing and reviewing for Rogerebert.com.
Ebert is survived by his wife, his step-daughter, and his two step-grandsons. As a star and inspiration in the world that we here at Movie Fanatic take part in, he will be sorely missed.
