Okay, okay, anyone with a fair amount of foresight probably could have seen this coming.
Robert Downey, Jr., after months of claiming that he wanted to move on to smaller, more personal projects once Iron Man 3 came out, has signed a new two-picture deal. That renews the actor for The Avengers 2 and 3.
Granted, it still seems as though Downey will not be returning to make a new solo Iron Man film, and Marvel will eventually need to think about whether they want to recast the part or retire the character.
That makes sense given the actor's age. He will be into his 50's by the time The Avengers 3 hits theaters.
But all the fears of Tony Stark fans can be put to rest. Joss Whedon claimed he didn't want to make The Avengers 2 without Downey, and now he won't have to.
Still, what would you like to see happen to the Iron Man character once Downey retires?
