Oh my gosh! Is it you or is it us, Sam Mendes?
Now I know we here at 'Internet' have a tendency to draw major conclusions from minor comments, but it seems like Mendes is playing with us.
Remember last month when we reported that the Skyfall director would return to direct Bond 24?
And remember a few months before that when we reported that Mendes definitely would not return to direct Bond 24?
Well, it seems that neither of those stories are confirmable. Speaking to Hey U Guys at the premiere of his theatrical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mendes said "I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until this is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus."
But Sam! We thought you were confirmed! We were even talking about how you were a likely candidate for Bond 25!
Don't panic, this doesn't mean for certain that Mendes won't be directing the next Bond film. Our guess is he is more or less on board, but didn't have the time to sit down and work out the hairy details because of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Meanwhile, Penelope Cruz is set to play a Bond Girl in the next film, so at least we have that. We'll keep you posted the next time Mendes changes his mind.
