Saturday may be a blockbuster day at Comic-Con as the famed annual pop culture convention has released its full Saturday schedule. We’ve seen the Comic-Con Thursday schedule and the Comic-Con Friday schedule, and with Saturday completing the movie week (Sunday is usually reserved for TV and video games), it can easily be stated that the third day of the fan fest will be the most popular.
Leading the way is none other than The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Marvel presenting Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as Warner Bros. showcasing its mettle with Godzilla, Seventh Son and 300: Rise of an Empire.
Here are the details of what we think is Comic-Con’s biggest day:
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Preview
Legendary Pictures previews two films: Godzilla and Seventh Son. Godzilla is a reboot to the icon that is the Japanese monster that stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bryan Cranston.
Seventh Son is a fantasy action adventure starring Jeff Bridges as Master Gregory, a Falcon Knight who imprisoned the powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) years ago. Now escaped, Mother Malkin is seeking her vengeance. Working with his apprentice (Ben Barnes), Master Gregory only has until the next blood moon to get him up to speed to battle the witch who you just know is a little pissed off.
Warner Bros. Pictures previews 300: Rise of an Empire from producer Zack Snyder, based on the graphic novel Xerxes by Frank Miller. As seen in the 300: Rise of an Empire trailer, it has the same visual style as 300 and kudos for director Noam Murro. Count on the cast and filmmakers to make an appearance.
Warner Bros. Pictures is also bringing Gravity, from acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron. The sci-fi thriller (in 3D) stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts who find themselves stuck in space after an accident leaves them without a space ship and only hours worth of oxygen. Will Bullock and Clooney appear… we think so.
Lastly, Warner Bros. Pictures brings the movie that we just died for with its recent The LEGO Movie trailer. With directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, of 21 Jump Street fame, arrives the first ever full length LEGO movie that features a slew of the company’s biggest action figures in one movie including Batman, Wonder Woman, and a few cats from The Lord of the Rings.
The cast includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman. Who will show up? Stay tuned for more details!
Saturday July 20, 2013 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Lionsgate Presents I, Frankenstein and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
You know the line for Hall H for Lionsgate’s presentation will be around the corner and will likely start forming days before. Sure, they have I, Frankenstein and stars Aaron Eckhart and Yvonne Strahovski along with writer-director Stuart Beattie and graphic novel author/writer Kevin Grevioux. Count on new visuals from the film, including a new trailer. But we all know the biggest draw this Comic-Con will be…
The cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. This is the franchise’s first visit to Comic-Con and look for never-before-seen footage from the second film in the Suzanne Collins trilogy, along with stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and, of course, Josh Hutcherson. Bring your questions… as the cast will be there for a Q&A.
Saturday July 20, 2013 1:35 p.m. to 2:35 p.m.
20th Century Fox
No news as to what Fox will bring, just that they have reserved Hall H during the time below.
Saturday July 20, 2013 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Marvel Studios: Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier
We’ve seen a Thor: The Dark World trailer, but nothing from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Figure that will change at Comic-Con as we will likely get a first trailer for Cap’s sequel and more visuals from Thor’s second go around.
Forgive us Marvel fans for saying Catching Fire will be the biggest draw… we know your fans have this presentation earmarked and your favorite Marvel superhero costumes at the ready.
Saturday July 20, 2013 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
