The Perks of Being a Wallflower was originally a book. It is about a freshman named Charlie, and is told through letters that he has written. In the movie, Charlie is shy and sort of an outcast; his best friend killed himself before he began high school. He learns about drug use and the darker side of life from his new friends Sam and Patrick.
