Fired Up Review

by at . Comments

Fired Up opens on February 20, 2009. And that shocks us. If ever a film were made for a direct-to-DVD release, this is it.

The lame comedy is in the mold of the American Pie sequels that, thankfully, never got a theatrical release. We can only surmise that this movie received a better fate because the stock of AnnaLynne McCord is on the rise, thanks to her 90210 starring role.

We're not against cheerleader movies, but no one can watch Fired Up and not compare it Bring It On, a smart, far better version of the same film. The original cheerleader epic didn't need to resort to the blatantly sexist and homophobic jokes that are made this time around.

The plot, if anyone cares, centers around football players that quit the team in order to attend cheerleading camp. How come? Because the babes are hot, obviously!

The funniest part of Fired Up?

Director Will Gluck's apparently straight-faced attempt to turn a John Lennon quote - "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" - into the film's motto.
