MTV has confirmed that Ivan Reitman will indeed be returning to the director's chair for Ghostbusters 3.
Reitman, father of filmmaker Jason Reitman, produced and directed both previous Ghostbusters films. He reports that he's received the Ghostbusters 3 script from The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, and that a second draft is already underway.
""They have delivered a draft," Reitman said. "We are working our way through another draft... good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed."
Tip-toeing around recent statements made by Sigourney Weaver, Reitman had this to say:
"I'm not going to comment on what's in the script and on what Sigourney may or may not have said," he said. "She's been so busy on 'Avatar,' I've not been able to find her. There's some very cool things in the new draft, let's just put it that way."
Notice that Reitman doesn't exactly deny any of what Weaver had said. He did comment that he hopes to start filming soon, presumably to meet the 2011 release date fellow Ghostbuster Harold Ramis had mentioned.
