British actor Ian McShane will sail the high seas as the villain Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment of the popular franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter announced, "McShane will join Johnny Depp, reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and Penelope Cruz, Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways, in a tale that revolves around the Fountain of Youth."

Well, that plot certainly sounds more interesting than the vague description we heard a while back about the leading Pirates of the Caribbean 4 plot, but we still say this sequel is unnecessary, and after the last one critically sunk like the Titanic, we're not entirely sure a top notch actor like McShane coupled with a top notch hottie like Penelope Cruz and good ol' Johnny boy can float the franchise above being a shameless whore of a moneymaker.
