According to 20th Century Fox, the third film in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise will be in 3D. The first two films have had a worldwide gross of $791 million in theaters. So logically, they will continue with a third film. It will have a release date of December 16, 2011.
Additionally, Fox also decided to move Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps from April 23 to September 24. The studio is hoping that the film will be included in the roster of films to screen at the Cannes Film Festival this coming May.
The sequel takes place 23 years after the original, revolving around the 2008 stock market crash. Michael Douglas stars again as the infamous Gordon Gekko, but instead as more of an antihero than a villain in an attempt to help wall street before the crash. The film also stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Charlie Sheen, Carey Mulligan, Susan Sarandon, and Frank Langella.
