Just a few days ago, Marvel dropped the international Iron Man 2 poster, which is pretty cool with it's flames and whatnot, but American distributor Paramount decided that domestic audiences could do without the explosions... or Mickey Rourke.
As you can see below, the American version of the Iron Man 2 poster is laid out slightly differently, with Iron Man and War Machine flopped up top, the floating heads of the major cast relatively untouched, and for some inexplicable reason, the most visually engaging portion of the poster (which isn't saying much), Mickey Rourke's Whiplash walking in front of a ball of fire, completely deleted, in favor of a tiny image of Iron Man swooping down from below.
I'll be honest. I've never cared for Iron Man's marketing. While I enjoy character posters as much as the next guy, offerings from The Dark Knight and Kick-Ass have been far superior, adding elements beyond each character simply photographed on a black background. It's safe to say that even though the layout of this new Iron Man 2 poster is fine, it does admittedly look a little... cheap. Let's hope that doesn't ring true for the movie itself.
