Dark Knight Sequel Gets a Release Date!
by Rupert Pupkin at . CommentsWarner Bros. has given an official release date for a sequel to Christopher Nolan's immensely popular The Dark Knight. The third of the new Batman films is slated to hit theaters on July 20, 2012, in standard as well as IMAX theaters. No mention of 3D.
Not much is known about the plot of the third film, though rumors have been churning ever since The Dark Knight made box office history. The most likely candidate for the new villain could be the Riddler, though rumors that Johnny Depp has been tapped to play the role have been squashed. All we really know is that the Nolans are working on a script.
What is interesting is that Warner Bros. has signed a 20 picture deal with IMAX, giving further credibility to cinematographer Wally Pfister's assertion that the Dark Knight sequel may very well be filmed entirely in IMAX and that Christopher Nolan is shying away from 3D.
