Sad news from Hollywood, veteran actor Dennis Hopper has passed away due to complications from prostate cancer. He was 74.

Hopper had fallen ill last September, but had continued to work, mainly on his cable series Crash and a book showcasing his photography. He passed away in his Venice home at 8:15 AM PDT on Saturday, surrounded by family and friends.

In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Hopper received two Oscar nominations for co-writing Easy Rider (which he also directed and starred in) and for his performance in the 1986 drama Hoosiers. He co-starred with James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause and Giant in the 1950's and was well-known for his roles in Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, and Speed.

Dennis Hopper was born in Dodge City, Kansas and made his acting debut in the 1955 television show Medic.  Hopper is best known for his roles in Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Colors, Blue Vevelt, Hoosiers, and Speed.  Hopper was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Hoosiers and for his writing in Easy Rider.
