Black Dynamite Engages in Mortal Kombat

A mysterious short film hit the net today featuring Michael Jai White (titular star of Black Dynamite and Gambol from The Dark Knight), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager), Matt Mullins, Lateef Crowder and Ian Anthony Dale titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. According to Latino Review, it appears to be a test shoot for Warner Bros. to fund a feature length hard R-rating reboot of the Mortal Kombat series.

The short features a lot of elements that fans have complained were missing from the feature film series, which was first adapted from the popular video game in the 1990's by action director Paul W.S. Anderson, namely blood and gore. Judging from the short, the proposed reboot also seems to be taking a very gritty and realistically hard-edged approach to cinematography and character design as opposed to the more fantastic precedent Anderson created in 1995.

In any case, insiders speculate that the feature film IS on the way, and that this test shoot is only a sign of what to expect. Watch the entire short film below and let us know what you think!
