Horror writer/director James Gunn, most well-known for writing Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead, has posted a new photograph on his website, JamesGunn.com, of Rainn Wilson in costume as The Crimson Bolt from his forthcoming superhero satire Super.
Super offers Gunn's take on the superhero genre and sees Rainn Wilson as an average guy who takes on the alter ego of the Crimson Bolt, after watching his wife (Liv Tyler) fall under the spell of a charming drug dealer (Kevin Bacon). The film also stars Ellen Page and Serenity's Nathan Fillion.
On his site, Gunn spoke a little bit about the Comic-Con panel where he gave fans a first glimpse at footage from the film.
"SUPER is a VERY low-budget film made as a labor of love by all involved – as I said at the panel, everyone on the film, from me, to all of the actors, to the composer Tyler Bates, are all working on the film for the lowest amount the guilds allow. Yes, I know, there have been other films that are superficially the same as ours, movies about real people becoming superheroes – including some very good ones. But ours is the first that, although funny, focuses first and foremost on the emotions of the characters involved. It is a dark, gritty, violent, no-hold-barred independent film that is, I promise you, not at all what you expect."
