One of the endlessly fascinating things about Hollywood is the many different actor options a filmmaker has at his or her disposal. As such, it's always fun to wonder what a particular film would have been like had the casting choices been different, like the long-buried Eric Stoltz footage from Back to the Future.
Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot is destined to be another such case. After it was announced that The Social Network star Andrew Garfield would fill Tobey Maguire's shoes as the new Peter Parker, many rejoiced and others, I'm sure, were disappointed. But none of them were as disappointed as Josh Hutcherson.
Hutcherson, whose credits include Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Kids are All Right and the forthcoming Red Dawn remake, recorded a stellar audition tape to prove that he could handle the physical requirements of the web slinger, while successfully playing a high school nerd outcast. The audition tape, which features a surprisingly well-choreographed fight sequence involving gravity-defying acrobatics complete with a Danny Elfman score, has been leaked online.
See what you missed below, and stay tuned to see what Andrew Garfield does with the role come July 2012!
