Apparently, Mission: Impossible IV is going through some changes. Variety is reporting that Paramount is planning to use a different name for the project, and may even drop "Mission: Impossible" altogether... but will it still be a sequel to the popular franchise featuring Tom Cruise?
Well, yes. But after last week's news that Jeremy Renner was cast opposite Cruise, Variety is quick to claim that his role will be "as big" as Tom's, suggesting that this may be the first in a series of an off-shoot franchise that may or may not star Cruise.
"While Paramount envisions Cruise returning for subsequent films, Renner could play the central character in those installments," says the trade. "Those familiar with the project said the story brings a fresh perspective to the action-spy franchise. Nor will Bird's film pick up from where the last film left off."
Mission: Impossible IV, or whatever it is to be called, is scheduled to start shooting this fall in Vancouver, Prague, Dubai and the U.S. under the direction of Brad Bird.
