SuperHeroHype reports that Paramount Pictures has set the date for the Joss Whedon-directed Marvel production, which will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. Production will take place in Los Angeles, shooting from a script co-written by Whedon and The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn.
The film isn't scheduled to hit theaters until May 4, 2012, so in the meantime, you'll just have to amuse yourself with this interesting fan-made trailer depicting what The Avengers would have looked like, had it been made in 1952 (long before the comic book hit stands).
