Sad news from Hollywood: The Los Angeles Times has reported that editor Sally Menke was found dead early Tuesday morning in Griffith Park. This follows a day of searching by the authorities when a friend reported that she didn't return home from a morning hike with her dog on Monday. Menke was 56.

Menke earned Oscar nominations for her work on Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds, and had been collaborating with the director since his first feature, Reservoir Dogs. Her other credits include Jackie Brown, Death Proof, Kill Bill, Four Rooms, Mulholland Falls and All The Pretty Horses.

No cause of death has been determined and authorities have not stated whether the current heat wave battering Los Angeles was a factor.

Quentin Tarantino was very vocal about his fondness for Menke, and you can see him express his appreciation for her in the two videos below, which contain "Hi Sallys", trims from the cutting room floor where the cast and crew say hello to the editor. One video is from Death Proof, which is preceded by Tarantino's explanation of his working relationship with Sally, and the second video is a compilation of Hi Sallys from Inglourious Basterds.
