Another unnecessary remake gets another big name behind it. Variety is reporting that Colin Farrell has been offered the leading role in Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake.
While the In Bruges actor's resume means good news for the Philip K. Dick property, it doesn't mean the remake will be any better than the Paul Verhoeven-directed 1990 version starring a pre-Terminator 2 Arnold Schwarzenegger and post-Basic Instinct Sharon Stone.. Though the effects and overall style of the film seem dated now, it was a critical and financial success, and yes, an Oscar winner (for best special effects). It's clear that Wiseman and Sony are looking at doing something radically different with the property by casting Farrell, so we're eager to see how it all pans out.
