Fox Searchlight has decreed that Black Swan will expand to 1,000 theaters on December 22, due to exceptionally high per-theater averages this past weekend. Darren Aronofsky's latest thriller was only released in 18 theaters across the country, but still managed to pull in $1.4 million over the weekend to place at #13 on the box office charts.
That's a whopping $80,000 per-screen average, which is itself a new record. Fox Searchlight has placed the film to open wide against Little Fockers, the Coen Bros.' True Grit and Jack Black's remake of Gulliver's Travels. Sounds like a good weekend to conquer.
