Looking Ahead: 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2011!
by Eric Hochberger at . CommentsAlthough not an exhaustive list of all films coming out this year, and there are a lot of them, Movie Fanatic looks at some of the most anticipated films of the year. We're not claiming these will be the best films, nor the list of potential Oscar winning films; it's simply a look at some of the films receiving the most buzz.
Whether it's the last in a beloved series, a remake of a classic, or the latest period piece, here are all the must-see flicks:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: Perhaps the MOST anticipated film of the year, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 concludes the beloved movie series based on the extremely popular books. Seeing as the first part of the final film brought in more than $800 million in its first six weeks, the second part is bound to be a success (July 15, 2011).
The Tree of Life: Lots of buzz for the latest Brad Pitt flick directed by Terrence Malick. The film is a period piece that centers around a family with three boy growing up in the 1950's. It follows the life of the boys, but particularly the eldest, as we see his loss of innocence (May 27, 2011).
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: This American remake from director David Fincher of the Stieg Larsson's bestseller is set to become an instant hit if the success of the book is any indication. The crime film (and novel) is set is Sweden and centers around a journalist who searches for a young girl missing (or dead) for 40 years (December 21, 2011).
Complete list after the jump!
Cowboys and Aliens: Western and sci-fi together in one epic tale - what's not to love. The preview does looks a little strange, but this epic movie is getting people talking. And it's attracted some big stars, Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, and Olivia Wilde are all involved with the project (July 29th, 2011).
Scream 4: All you horror junkies should be excited for this one. Bringing back the original stars, as well as some new faces, this fourth installment of the famous series should get audiences on the edge of their seats. Neve Campbell is back as Sydney Prescott and just as she's starting to live a normal life, she's revisited (yet again) by the masked killer (April 15th, 2011).
The Hangover 2: Guy bonding at its finest. The boys of The Hangover are back for another epic adventure. This time, they're traveling to Bangkok for Stu's wedding and you know things are gonna get crazy (May 26, 2011).
Sherlock Holmes 2: Holmes and his faithful sidekick Watson are back to kick some more butt! This time they are out to take-down nemesis Dr. Moriarty in a battle of skill and wit. Guy Richie is back to direct the follow-up to last years hit (December 16, 2011).
The Muppet Movie: This list just had to include the Muppets. I mean, they're the Muppets! Now, they're coming to the big screen with the help of some famous friends. Some actors involved in the upcoming flick include Jason Segel, Amy Adams, and Chris Cooper. But that's not all, Lady Gaga, Billy Crystal, and Ricky Gervais are all set to make cameo appearances (November 23, 2011).
Green Lantern: Previews are already everywhere and the flick doesn't even come out until June. With all the franchises, like Spiderman and Batman, releasing their next versions in 2012, we need a comic-book hero in 2011 and the Green Lantern suits us just fine. We don't mind looking at Ryan Reynolds in a green suit for 2 hours (June 11, 2011).
The Twilight Saga- Breaking Dawn: It's slightly painful to put this one on the list, but there is no denying Twilight is HUGE! Twihards everywhere are chomping at the bit to see the first part of the final film in the series. Considering the last three have broken some records and people line up around the block at midnight, this movie is bound to be a raving success (November 18, 2011).
