Marvel is conducting screen tests Friday for one of the last roles needed for The Avengers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wednesday night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Samual L. Jackson confirmed he will be appearing in The Avengers and he will have a female sidekick.
So who is on the shortlist?
V star Morena Baccarin, Melrose Place star Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead who starred in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
The actress who successfully auditions for the part will be a key member of the espionage agency run by Nick Fury (Jackson). No word from Marvel on if she will appear as The Wasp/Janet van Dyne.
Word is the casting is meant to even the predominantly male cast. Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow is pretty much the only female superhero so far to appear in The Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, are also set to appear in the flick.
Shooting is set to begin in April.
