DVD Release: Burlesque, Love and Other Drugs, 127 Hours
by Alyssa Caverley at . CommentsFour wide-release blockbusters are set to hit DVD and Blu-Ray in this week's Tuesday releases. There is something for everyone - musical, rom com, drama, action.
Love and Other Drugs: Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this clothing optional romantic dramedy. The film revolves around Jamie (Gyllenhaal) a pharmaceutical rep who falls for Maggie (Hathaway), a Parkinson's patient who is not looking for love or a serious relationship. The ending is extremely cliche, but overall the film is sweet and funny. The DVD includes deleted scenes and featurettes with Gyllenhaal and Hathaway.
Burlesque: Cher stars as a veteran Burlesque performer who reluctantly hires new singer/dancer Ali, who turns out to be a huge star! The film has great performances, but overall is totally corny and cliched. If you're looking for a purely entertaining escape, this is a good one to see. The DVD features include an alternate beginning, alternate musical scenes, and a blooper reel.
127 Hours: Best actor nominee James Franco stars in this riveting true story of hiker Aron Ralston, who gets trapped under a boulder during a hiking trip in Utah. He doesn't tell anyone where he is going, so he spends 5 days trapped before he cuts off his own arm in order to free himself. Franco's performance is perfect and there is a pretty gruesome amputation scene if you can get through it. DVD features include deleted scenes and a featurette with director Danny Boyle.
Faster: An ex-con (Dwayne Johnson) sets out to avenge his brother's death after they are tricked during a heist. During his journey, he is followed by a cop and hit man. He goes through many obstacles to find the people who killed his brother. If you like Johnson and action/adventure movies, this one's for you.
