Tom Hanks Attached to Somali Pirates Movie

Sony Pictures has confirmed that Tom Hanks is, in fact, attached to play Richard Phillips, the cargo ship Captain who offered himself up as a hostage in order to save his crew in the 2009 Somali pirates incident.  The news was first reported by Deadline.

The film will be based on Philiips' memoires called A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea. Phillips was ultimately rescued by SEAL snipers in a daring rescue.

The final deal is not in place for Hanks, but negotiations are definitely well underway.
