Not what we expected, but it's exciting nonetheless. Lionsgate just announced Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) has been cast in the lead role of Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games.
Liam Hensworth has also been cast in the film, in the role of Gale Hawthorne, Katniss' best friend and hunting partner.
The actors will join Jennifer Lawrence who was recently picked to play the heroine Katniss Everdeen.
Peeta and Katniss are chosen to represent District 12 in the annual Hunger Games at the captiol. They must fight to survive as they are forced to kill all the other participants. The games are televised on national television as a sport.
The Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross and is based on the bestselling trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
The first part will be released on March 23, 2012.
