Sir Ben Kingsley Joins Cast of The Dictator

Sir Ben Kingsley has joined the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator.  We previously reported three women on the short list for the female lead and now have Kingsley as a resident of the dictator's middle eastern country.

The Dictator comes from Larry Charles and Baron Cohen who created Bruno and Borat.

 It is inspired by Saddam Hussein's novel "Zibabah and the King" and will feature Cohen as a goat-herder and an oppressive dictator.  He finds himself completely out of his comfort zone when visiting America.

The Dictator is expected to begin shortly and is set to hit theaters in May 2012.

Ben Kingsley was born Krishna Bhanji in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England and studied at the University of Salford. Kinglsey's big breakthrough came in his Academy Award-winning portrayal of Mahandas Gandhi in the 1982 Gandhi. Since then, Kingsley has appeared in numerous other films including Without a Clue, Bugsy, Sneakers, Dave, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Schindler's List, Sexy Beast, and House of Sand and Fog.

In addition to the Academy Award Kingsley won, he has been nominated for three more Academy Awards. He has also been nominated for eight Golden Globes, winning two for his performance in Gandhi. He's a pretty talented actor.
