Confirmed: Armie Hammer Will Play The Lone Ranger

After weeks of speculation and a couple other high profile actor's in the mix, Armie Hammer will play the title role in The Lone Ranger, opposite Johnny Depp's Tonto. 

Gore Verbinski will direct the upcoming adaptation of the 1930's radio show that eventually turned into a TV special in the late 40's and 50's. 

Hammer will play the title character who is never seen without his mask and is the survivor of an ambush on six Texas Rangers by an armed gang -- all but one is left dead.

Depp has already been attached to the film for almost three years and says he has always wanted to play Tonto since seeing the original TV specials, but wants to give Tonto more of a voice.
Hammer has been quite in demand lately and he has received a number of high profile roles.  He will star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming J. Edgar and will also play the lead role in Relativity's The Brother Grimm: Snow White, opposite Julia Roberts and Lily Collins.
