Hunger Games Casting: Donald Sutherland Will Be President Snow

by at . Comments

One of the final big castings for The Hunger Games has finally been revealed.  Donald Sutherland will play the role of the evil President Snow -- the man in charge who sanctions and organizes the 'Hunger Games' every year.

Snow becomes a huge threat to Katniss when he takes a disliking to her in the trilogy.  He is the autocratic ruler of Panem and its 12 districts for 25 years when the story begins.  He is ruthless in his intimidation tactics and has the appearance of a snake -- especially around his eyes.

Sutherland is an iconic Hollywood actor who can be seen this summer in Horrible Bosses and recently starred in The Mechanic opposite Jason Statham and Ben Foster.

Sutherland joins Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, and Woody Harrelson as Haymitch.

Directed by Gary Ross, the film is based on the very popular novels by Suzanne Collins and follows heroine Katniss as she takes her sister's place in the annual 'Hunger Games,' a fight to the death consisting of two children from the twelve districts.

The Hunger Games is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2012.
