Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington star in Last Night, a film that looks at the delicate subject of infidelity with gripping realism. It doesn't put light on the subject, but you feel for these characters.
Michel and Joanna are a happy New York couple who are both given the opportunity to cheat one night when Michael is out of town. Will Michael give into an interested co-worker (Eva Mendes) when they are on a business trip together. Back in New York, Joanna meets a former flame from Paris, whom she has quite a bit of chemistry with. Will she give into her emotions and cheat on her husband? Is the emotional aspect of their night together also cheating?
All these question come up in this film, which also provides a great commentary on the different aspects of adultery and what that mean to men and women. Is there a difference? Do men and women consider cheating differently?
These characters are emotionally conflicted and that struggle is evident throughout their performances. Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington have great chemistry with each other and their potential mates. The performances are harrowing and it adds to the intensity if the subject matter.
The film provides a look at the personal journey for both these characters. Michael and Joanna are separated for most the the film and you only really get a look at their interaction before the business trip. It's not really about what happens after the night of temptation, but how these characters go about making their decisions.
