Terrence Malick shoots more than he needs to for his films, and that is the case with The Tree of Life as well. But, according to EW, Mallick has some interesting plans for the extra footage he shot, The Voyage of Time, an IMAX documentary about the history of man and the planet.
“It is still a possibility,” Tree of Life producer Bill Pohlad told EW. “We are still working on it. Some of the footage we shot for it is in The Tree of Life but there is so much more … We have all talked about it and still want to push forward on it. It is about finding the time to get it finished. It is not done by any means but what we learned from Tree of Life and the footage that we had, that stuff is all there. It just needs to be put together."
The Tree of Life opens in select theaters on Friday, May 27 and stars Brad Pitt as a complex father who is tough on his three sons. It effects the middle son as a grown up who reflects back on his childhood to understand who he is in the present.
