According to box office experts, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris is poised to become one of his highest grossing films ever.
The movie was originally made as another art house genre film, but the charming Parisian romantic comedy has attracted general audiences and become a fast growing favorite with Allen fans.
It has earned $23.3 million at the box office so far, surpassing both Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Match Point, each of which earned $22.7 million.
The film follows a man who discovers another reality and journeys back in time to a different side Parisian culture. The film features many cultural references to 20th Century artists and writers and has an undeniable charm in the way it's presented.
Owen Wilson plays the main characters and his mix of awe and acceptance is delightfully attractive. The cast also includes Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Marion Cotillard, and Kathy Bates. Check out our review of Midnight in Paris for more on this charming film.
The film originally opened in six theaters in New York and Los Angeles and brought in some amazing numbers for such a small theaters opening. It has since expanded to more than 1,000 theaters and continues to do well across North America. The comedy will expand, yet again, to 1,038 screens this weekend.
We'll see what happens with this immensely popular film, but box office analyst expect it to become Allen's highest grossing film ever, surpassing Hannah and Her Sister, which currently hold the spot with $40.1 million in total earnings.
