It’s been quite a week for billion dollar movies, as Transformers Dark of the Moon has now passed the coveted box office milestone.
Earlier in the week, it was announced that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 surpassed the billion dollars in box office earnings marker and now it is official that Harry has company: Transformers Dark of the Moon is joining Harry in the elite movie club.
Paramount Pictures is celebrating the big day as it is the legendary studio’s first film to earn a billion dollars. Director Michael Bay, producer Steven Spielberg and the cast that includes Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel were thanked by the studio in advertisements taken out in today’s Hollywood trades.
As of August 3, Transformers has earned $338 million in the U.S. and an astonishing $663 million across the rest of the globe.
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the first billion dollar grossing movie in the history of Paramount Pictures, marking a substantial milestone in the 99 year life of this legendary studio," said Brad Grey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures, in a statement. “We are grateful for the extraordinary work of Michael Bay and his film-making team, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and everyone at Paramount around the globe who played a part in helping make this latest Transformers one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time.”
