The Descendants Trailer Teases George Clooney's Oscar Buzzing Film
by Joel D Amos at . CommentsThe Descendants' latest trailer shows why George Clooney has all that award talk swirling around him. In the couple of minutes he inhabits Matt King in the trailer, a husband and father to two girls, Clooney commands. While Movie Fanatic was at the Toronto Film Festival, the talk of the town was The Descendants and Clooney’s performance.
Fox Searchlight has released the latest trailer for The Descendants, due in theaters November 18. The film arrives from the mind of Alexander Payne of Sideways fame.
The King family appears to be living a life of paradisiacal bliss. When Clooney’s wife is hurt in a boating accident, he must get real about his fractured relationship with his two daughters. He learns from his 17-year-old Alexandra that his wife has been having an affair, long before she hurt herself and was actually with “the other man” when she crashed. Clooney’s character must come to terms with a multitude of issues at once. In the hands of the Oscar nominated actor, as the new The Descendants trailer illustrates, the journey is handled with grace, power and a performance worthy of all that Oscar buzz.
The title arrives from the fact that the King family are owners of some of the last unsold land in Hawaii, passed down from Hawaiian royalty. The film itself is at times funny and has an air about it that transcends cinema.
