As J.J. Abrams has put his Super 8 experience to bed with the release of the film on Blu-Ray, he is now honing in (finally) on that Star Trek sequel. Abrams has given himself a deadline by announcing a Star Trek 2 release date of summer 2013. And now there is some casting news of note.
After Leonard Nimoy famously appeared in Star Trek in a neat piece of time-bending storytelling, Abrams is saying that his sequel will not have a single soul from the original 1960s series.
Although the Nimoy visit in the first of the new series of Star Trek films was fantastic, we welcome the decision of Abrams to stick with his main cast led by Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. There had been rumors, we think started by hardcore fans, that William Shatner would make an appearance in the Star Trek sequel. Not so much.
