With its Christmas Day release, War Horse did not register on the weekend box office top 10. But it has made up for it since. War Horse has charged through the gate and earned an impressive $15 million in four days.
What else has been incredibly impressive is Tom Cruise’s latest turn as Ethan Hunt. Since Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol opened it has racked up $78.6 million at the domestic box office. Even more astounding are the numbers that Cruise’s latest pic has earned internationally. Ghost Protocol has taken in $218.6 million globally.
On Sunday alone, Spielberg’s War Horse came in third, behind Ghost Protocol and the second Sherlock Holmes film. Since Spielberg’s War Horse debuted, it has also earned the rare high grade on CinemaScore -- a service that tracks audience opinion. The picture is currently holding fast at an A-.
Where War Horse will finish, time will tell. But at this rate, War Horse is quickly making it one of Spielberg’s most popular films (don’t miss our Top 10 Steven Spielberg movies!).
