The sequel to the 1995 hit Waiting to Exhale is going forward, a Fox studio rep has confirmed. While the world is mourning superstar Whitney Houston (check out her life in film), it seems that her death has spawned a new passion for the project that has been in development for years.
According to Elizabeth Gabler, in an interview with Vulture, the first film’s director -- Forest Whitaker -- is on board and the production is happening. “It’s almost in Houston’s honor that we think to soldier on,” she stated. The Fox rep also said that it isn’t just wild rumors that a certain mega-star could step in for Houston -- Oprah Winfrey. “It isn’t inconceivable.”
Author Terry McMillan’s best-selling novel produced a sequel, entitled Getting to Happy, and the source material has long been turned into a script. Now, it looks as if it is finally moving ahead.
