Blade Runner Sequel to be Penned by Original Writer

by at . Comments

First reports of the project suggested it might be a remake or a reboot, but we now have word that the new Blade Runner project will indeed be a sequel. And original screenwriter Hampton Fancher is set to write the script with director Ridley Scott.

Harrison Ford Blade Runner

Often cited as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time, 1982's Blade Runner was originally conceived to launch a series surrounding the Philip K. Dick novel Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep? The other films never came to fruition until now.

No plot, character, or casting developments have been revealed of yet, but Scott has stated that the new film will indeed be a Blade Runner sequel, and not a prequel.

Scott is currently awaiting the release of his highly-anticipated Prometheus, which originated as something of a prequel to Alien (watch a clip introducing Prometheus' David for a preview of the film). Might this Blade Runner sequel eventually diverge into its own film as well?

Blade Runner Quotes

Gaff: You've done a man's job, sir. I guess you're through, huh?
Deckard: Finished.
[Gaff throws Deckard his gun]
Gaff: It's too bad she won't live! But then again, who does?

Deckard: Leon!
Leon: How old am I?
Deckard: [after slugging Leon, to no effect] I dunno.
Leon: My birthday is April 10, 2017. How long do I live?
Deckard: Four years.
Leon: More than you! Painful to live in fear, isn't it?
