The new trailer for Argo premiered on Good Morning America this morning. The film, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, chronicles the rescue of six American hostages in Iran in 1979. How was it done? By creating a fake movie, and claiming the hostages were crew members.
While the film, which seems reminiscent of 1997's Wag the Dog, only real, will clearly be a political thriller, the trailer takes a bit of an out-of-left-field comedic turn about halfway through. And with John Goodman and Alan Arkin on board as Hollywood old hands, there's bound to be some comic relief here and there.
Argo also features Breaking Bad star Brian Cranston, who has had a very busy year. In addition to his hit TV show, Cranston will be appearing in a total of five films in 2012, including Total Recall later this year.
Catch Argo in theaters beginning September 14.
