Bobcat Goldthwait has more than made his mark as a stand-up comedian. But, he is having a second coming career-wise as a talented comic film director. Evidence of that biting funny flair is on display with his latest, God Bless America. The writer-director of that film sits with Movie Fanatic for an exclusive chat about where this insanely hysterical idea came from and even gives us a wild story about filming one of his first films, One Crazy Summer, with John Cusack. That film is where he met his God Bless America star Joel Murray and also where it seems he stole Cusack’s credit card!
God Bless America is a dark comedy about a man (Murray) who learns he is terminally ill. Tired of his life (even before his diagnosis), he goes on a killing spree cleaning up the world, “one jerk at a time,” as the tagline says. When he first gets going, a teenager takes a liking to his method (Tara Lynne Barr) and the two make the most unusually compelling pair since Natural Born Killers.
