The new horror film The Apparition skirts around an obvious flaw in paranormal horror films: that some viewers just don't believe in ghosts (can something you don't believe in be scary?), by creating a world where the human mind itself creates the horrifying creatures. Check out the first trailer below.
The Apparition stars Ashley Greene (Breaking Dawn part 2) and Sebastian Stan (Gone) as a couple who are being haunted by a terrifying presence unleashed by a mind experiment. The trailer does a great job of conveying the psychology of fear, a horror movie element that often takes a film to the next level of scary.
Another horror movie, Chernobyl Diaries, arrived in theaters today. The movie follows a group of "extreme tourists" who find themselves trapped at the site of one of the worst nuclear disasters in history.
The Apparition is directed by first-timer Todd Lincoln. Look for the movie in theaters August 24.
