A third, full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has been released, painting a startlingly bleak portrait of what the final chapter in Christopher Nolan's trilogy will look like when it hits theaters July 20.
The new trailer offers myriad shots of Gotham crumbling amid widespread chaos and anarchy, along with an extended glimpse of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, a new Batwing and much, much more.
The bleakness of the teaser is what stands out, however, especially amid the backdrop of The Avengers' release this weekend. The Dark Knight trailer below will be shown in theaters prior to that film. Here it is:
Christian Bale, obviously, reprises his lead role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, facing off with Tom Hardy as the creepy villain Bane in the follow-up to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).
The Dark Knight Rises also stars a plethora of big screen giants: Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine, the great Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon.
