It's been a full 18 years since Speed, so we're about due for a new bus film. Along comes quirky French director Michel Gondry to fill our bus void.
The We and the I follows the drama on a city bus in the Bronx after school lets out on the first day of summer. Check out the first trailer for the film which will premier at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Gondry has tackled American urban culture before, despite being French, in 2008's Be Kind Rewind (check out some Be Kind Rewind quotes), and the 2006 documentary Dave Chappelle's Block Party. This film, however, features mostly unknown or first-time actors, and the action takes place largely on, well, a bus, so it may be an entirely unique experience.
Early reports of the film included a plot line wherein the kids find an eternal youth machine, though it looks like that was eventually removed. Gondry is known for being quirky and fantastical, though, so some element of the supernatural would not surprise.
