The Avengers Passes the $600 Million Mark Domestically

by at . Comments

Just when we thought The Avengers was taking its bow and making a calm exit from the spotlight, the smash hit superhero film is poised to pass the $600 million ticket sales mark in the United States today.

The milestone makes The Avengers the third highest-grossing film of all time both domestically and worldwide, and the only film to make over $600 million directed by somebody not named James Cameron.

The first and second place films are Avatar and Titanic. Speaking of, have you heard Cameron's plan to shoot three Avatar sequels at one time?

While the accomplishment is certainly huge, one has to wonder just how long The Avengers will hold on to the number 3 spot. Do you think The Dark Knight Rises has a chance to get close to Avengers numbers? What about The Amazing Spider-Man, or some of the other upcoming Marvel comic films that are currently in production?
